Processing Instruction

Hot forming:

CuCoBe is suitable for hot forming at about 1650 - 1300 °F. A high oxidizing furnace atmosphere should be avoided. Rapid cooling is recommended after hot forming.

Cold forming:

CuCoBe is suitable for cold forming. Intermediate annealing for softening can be carried out at approx. 1470 °F with subsequent rapid cooling.

Heat treatment:

To achieve optimum properties,  CuCoBe should be solution heat-treated and fast quenched in water. This is followed by age hardening.

Solution heat treatment:

1650 - 1760 °F. 15 - 60 minutes. Quenching in water
Hardness measurement control: max. 100 HB
Conductivity control: approx. 12 m/Ωmm²

Age hardening:

860 - 930 °F 1 - 5 hours. Air cooling (Not in water!)

Machining and Processing:

It is recommended that this type of machining (e.g. turning, milling, drilling) be carried out in the age hardened condition. If drilling, using a  larger angle or twist is recommended. Please allow for sufficient cooling.

Soldering Capabilities:

CuCoBe can be soft soldered in the age hardened condition. However, the maximum temperature during soldering cannot exceed 750°F. Hard soldering with a silver solder with a low melting point is also possible. Nevertheless, a loss of hardness is to be expected even with limited soldering. Gas-shielded and resistance welding are also possible, though preferably in a solution heat-treated condition. Attention must be paid to good aeration and ventilation as well as welding smoke extraction. Clean metallic surfaces are required for all soldering.
